Odoo as the backbone
There’s a reason why FRUIT OP JE WERK is written in capital letters. Over the past ten years, the largest supplier of fruit at work in the Netherlands has been piling up as many successes as fruit boxes. Today, employees at more than 6,000 companies spread throughout the Netherlands happily sink their teeth into the fruit that’s delivered by FRUIT OP JE WERK. All those orders set off from three different locations: Moordrecht, Zwolle and Best. From these three locations, every week over 350 trips are made, almost 30% of which are fully electric. A sizable operation that you can't just manage in Excel. Behind this well-oiled logistics machine lies a story of continuous growth, challenges, and clever automation, with Odoo as the backbone.
The organisation scales, but the fun prevails
Thirteen years ago, Remco, in his twenties, first walked into FRUIT OP JE WERK. ‘There were only ten of us, an unorganised mess,’ he laughs. ‘We worked mostly in Excel and did everything ourselves: loading the trucks, packing orders, making itineraries.’ Fast-forward to today, loads of things have changed. ‘We deliver 38,000 fruit boxes a week, meanwhile work with over three hundred people and are heavily involved in smart logistics and ICT.’ But for Remco, the most important thing is that ‘We’re still having so much fun together!’
But okay, that planning and administration… 'We managed it manually in Excel,' Remco explains. 'Which resulted in an endless, colour-coded chaos of rows and columns. Every change required manual adjustments. I often found myself updating customer files on the sofa late on Sunday evenings.' That situation proved unsustainable. 'It led to inefficient processes and a limited insight into our growth. Managing deliveries and invoicing took up a lot of time. It became clear that we needed an integrated system to streamline and scale our operational processes.'
O, o, Odoo
In their quest for an ERP system that was suitable for upscaling FRUIT OP JE WERK, Remco and his team ended up with Odoo. ‘After the implementation it was like we’d entered a whole new world. Invoices suddenly just came rolling out of the system at the end of the month.’ They could shift their focus forward again.
With Odoo, 360 ERP implemented a complete ERP system that covers all core processes of FRUIT OP JE WERK: sales, purchase, stock supply, deliveries, administration, customer service and quality management. Thanks to this solution, FRUIT OP JE WERK was quickly able to streamline their everyday operations and improve their logistic processes.
The implementation is just the beginning
Once the fundament is in firm place and Odoo is running smoothly, it all begins. ‘Because things can always be better. Or better yet: they should be better’. 360 ERP’s Frank Vogler, who works together with Remco on this project, says. ‘FRUIT OP JE WERK keeps growing and we don’t want them to burst at the seams. That’s why together we’re looking at bottlenecks and keep optimising.’
For example, FRUIT OP JE WERK switched to Routetitan for a more efficient route planning, after discussing the possibilities with 360 ERP. Frank: 'FRUIT OP JE WERK is the perfect example of a growing client with specific needs. By working closely together, we were able to implement the integration between Odoo and Routetitan, which has been a huge step forward for their daily logistics processes.'
Customer interactions were also simplified. Before, customer inquiries were managed through Zendesk, but FRUIT OP JE WERK, in collaboration with 360 ERP, opted to fully integrate their helpdesk environment within Odoo. 'Not only is the system much more user-friendly, but it's also cost-effective since we no longer have to pay external transaction fees,' Remco explains.
Personal click
In addition to the business successes, there’s also a personal click between both teams. Frank explains: ‘You immediately feel at home with a company like FRUIT OP JE WERK. We can make practical decisions quickly and stay on top of things. Remco and his team are able and willing to take fast decisions.’ Remco adds: ‘360 ERP doesn't speak in technical tales; they communicate with us in a pleasant, personal way. They understand our needs, even when those needs are not always standard.’
Scaling across the borders
Have we already mentioned that FRUIT OP JE WERK is never idle? The ambitions for the near future are focused on growth outside the Dutch borders, to make workplaces there healthier and more fun as well. In order to prepare for this, 360 ERP helped with the implementation of Odoo’s Multicompany functionality for Belgium. A system that’s not only scalable, but also flexible enough to meet the local requirements regarding customer management and route planning.
Growing and flourishing together
Every two years, 360 ERP carries out an Odoo version upgrade for FRUIT OP JE WERK. On top of that, they work together to explore potential improvements and expansions. Frank concludes, 'The complexity is mostly behind us now, so it's time to scale up. We make sure you stay up to date and continue to benefit from new Odoo features.' Remco adds, 'We see the future through rose-coloured glasses, and Odoo and 360 ERP are definitely part of that picture.'
